Teaching Examples

Geometry Unit: Creating a Mind Map

In this lesson, students worked on building a rubric by looking at several mind maps from previous units.  Students discussed the different examples given and were able to distinguish what would make a good mind map.  The students then created their own mind map to study and use for their geometry unit assessment.

In this example, students shared what they noticed about the three different example mind maps.  Students shared what mind map would exceed, meet, or not meet expectations.  The idea was for students to assess their own work but to also know what was expected when creating a mind map of their own.

Algebra Unit:  Slope Intercept Form

In this Desmos lesson, students mastered the components of the slope intercept form equation by looking at several graphs and tables.  Students were engaged in dialogue and were able to think critically to better understand the content.

In this example, two students engage in an active conversation by stating whether or not they think the equation is correct.  Their unique perspectives and discussion allows them to realize that the slope is actually the same.  It is these type of conversations that allow students to better understand the content and develop self confidence.

Student Work Examples

Reflection Flipbook

This year's Mandala Activity allowed students to connect and reflect over everything they have gone through this past school year.  The students picked a theme for a mandala design and completed that design using a compass geometry tool.  This mini activity also lead students to complete an end of the year reflection flip book.
