Impact on Student Success

"Do things the right way, not the easy way".

This year, I've achieved success in meeting a wide range of student learning needs, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and emerging bilinguals. Building strong relationships with all my students has been a key focus, ensuring the provision of the best learning experiences for each one. My experience in working individually with students has greatly contributed to this success.

One notable example involves a student, whom I'll refer to as J.D., an emerging bilingual, who showed remarkable growth and understanding in math. J.D. and her group partner confidently presented on measures of center in statistics, demonstrating a deep understanding of the content. J.D. particularly excelled in explaining box and whisker plots, showcasing her comprehension and mastery of the subject matter.

This achievement highlighted the effectiveness of the inclusive and supportive learning environment I've fostered—a space where students feel safe to make mistakes, think critically, and learn from one another. Below, you'll find J.D.'s presentation slide deck on box and whisker plots.

"Mr. Montes puts emphasis on teaching the whole individual where he incorporates socio-emotional learning as part of his daily lessons. His approach in teaching math is geared towards real-world connections, collaboration, and practical skill-building. Scholars find success in his class because they feel that they belong and feel confident that they will become successful with the support of Mr. Montes."
